![]() ![]() That’s exactly what this list is, a collection of standalone YA sci-fi novels that have everything: an A+ plot, interesting and well-rounded characters, imaginative worldbuilding, and fantastic writing - all wrapped in a single tome. I think sometimes we forget that it’s just as much of a challenge to succinctly tell a story that feels satisfying and complete as it is to properly plan a story over several volumes. I live for that.īut there is also something amazing about a story that is contained in 300-some pages but still leaves an incredible impact. There is something just incredibly satisfying about finishing a series with a good 10+ installments (looking at you, WHEEL OF TIME) and feeling like you are in complete knowledge of a magic system or a group of characters. ![]() Don’t get me wrong - love me a good series. ![]() ![]() Marcus is there because of what he did to the boys mental home he was staying in before he ended up on the streets. Because they have a natural talent for the art of killing. Every student in this school is there because they’ve been sent by some gang, or cartel or something. Marcus has been living on the streets and is just one step away from suicide when he’s brought to an underground school for assassins. The main focus of the story is centered around Marcus. I’d recommend this to anyone who likes darker reads, definitely.Ī positive mental attitude is essential to surviving out here. It was a very entertaining graphic novel, with an interesting crop of characters. I’d obviously heard about it, but didn’t have a clue what the story was really about.
